PM Narendra Modi Urges Kapoor Family to Create a Film on Raj Kapoor's Legacy
The Kapoor family is set to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor on December 14, 2024. As part of the celebrations, members of the Kapoor family, including Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and others, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to invite him to participate in the occasion. During their meeting, PM Modi encouraged the family to create a film highlighting Raj Kapoor’s enduring influence on Central Asia, where his films and persona remain highly regarded even decades later.
Raj Kapoor, often referred to as the “Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema,” left an indelible mark on both Indian and international audiences with films like Awaara, Shree 420, and Jagte Raho. His works not only entertained but also reflected the social and political ethos of post-independence India. Celebrations include screenings of his iconic films across 80 cities in India, curated by the Film Heritage Foundation in collaboration with RK Films and other partners.
This centennial tribute not only honors Raj Kapoor’s cinematic legacy but also serves as an opportunity to revisit his contribution to global cinema and the strong cultural connections his films fostered with audiences in regions like Central Asia.
