Along with receiving the award, Johnny Depp’s latest directorial project, Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness, will be screened at the festival.
The Rome Film Festival has revealed that Johnny Depp will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at its 2024 edition. Alongside this honor, Depp’s latest directorial film, Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness, will also be screened at the festival, as reported by Deadline.
Modi captures a “seventy-two-hour whirlwind in the life of bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani,” exploring his turbulent journey in war-torn Paris in 1916. The film stars French actor Antonia Desplat alongside Riccardo Scamarcio.
The film’s synopsis highlights Modigliani’s struggles as he flees from the police, contemplating the end of his career and leaving Paris. However, his decision faces opposition from fellow artists Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine, and his muse, Beatrice Hastings.
As Modigliani seeks advice from his friend and art dealer Leopold Zborowski, his night of vivid hallucinations escalates. This culminates in a pivotal meeting with American collector Maurice Gangnat, who could potentially change the trajectory of his life, according to Deadline.
After premiering at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Modi will make its next appearance in Rome. The festival will also honor Viggo Mortensen with a Lifetime Achievement Award, where he will present his film The Dead Don’t Hurt, according to Deadline.
The film follows Vivienne Le Coudy, played by Vicky Krieps, as she navigates a complicated relationship with Danish immigrant Holgen Olsen, portrayed by Mortensen. Their love story unfolds against the turbulent backdrop of the American Civil War in the 1860s. The 2024 Rome Film Festival is set to run from October 16 to 27.
