In a heartwarming and historic meeting, Rumeysa Gelgi, the world’s tallest woman, and Jyoti Amge, the world’s shortest woman, recently bonded over a traditional English tea at a special gathering organized by the Guinness World Records in London. Despite their remarkable height difference—Gelgi stands at an impressive 215.16 centimeters (7 feet 0.7 inches), while Amge measures just 62.8 centimeters (2 feet 0.7 inches)—the two women shared a delightful time together, discussing their life experiences, love for fashion, and tips for self-care.
The meeting, which was the first time the two women had met, became an emotional moment for both. Rumeysa Gelgi, who has held the title of the world’s tallest woman since 2021, expressed her admiration for Jyoti Amge, saying, “You’re so beautiful,” and shared that she had been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to meet her. She described their interaction as “fabulous,” enjoying their conversation about common interests like makeup and self-care. “She’s the most gorgeous lady,” Gelgi added.
Jyoti Amge, who hails from Maharashtra, India, and has held the title of the world’s shortest woman since 2011, also had a memorable experience. Despite the height disparity, she found the meeting special, noting that it was unusual for her to look up at someone shorter. “It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was great,” she said. Amge also expressed how happy she was to finally be able to look up at the world’s tallest woman, highlighting how her own perspective on height had always involved looking up to those taller than her.
The tea party allowed the two record-holders to share not just their height-related experiences, but also to connect over their mutual passion for fashion and self-care, something both women have become advocates for. Their meeting was a powerful reminder of how differences in physical stature don’t limit shared experiences, friendships, and the ability to inspire others.
Originally from Turkey, where she lives with her family, 27-year-old Rumeysa achieved global fame thanks to her record-breaking height: a stature that is fully matched by her drive and relentless efforts to make the world a more inclusive, kinder place.
Rumeysa’s impressive height is due to a condition called Weaver syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition that causes bone overgrowth following a mutation of the EZH2 gene.
Amge, on the other hand, has achondroplasia – a bone growth disorder that affects the arms and legs.
Fairly common among the known forms of skeletal dysplasia, this genetic disorder occurs in the early stages of fetal development and causes short stature, impacting the cartilage tissue that should later form the bones of the child’s arms and legs. That, however, has not stopped her as she navigates through life and continues to prove her bubbly, larger-than-life personality.
